Dominic Chianese's Las Vegas Singing Debut
Steve Schirripa and Dominic Chianese

Dominic ChianeseMay 18, 2001
Because Sopranoland is THE Sopranos Fan Mega Site, my friend Desiree and I headed over to Sunset Station's Club Madrid on Friday night for the sold out Las Vegas musical debut of Dominic Chianese (pronounced KEY-UH-NAY-SEE, in case you've been wondering).

We wasn't sure exactly what to expect, having only heard him sing Core 'ngrato on the new 2-CD Sopranos soundtrack release Peppers & Eggs (which was also featured in the finale episode of season three).

I'm pleased to announce Chianese is a folk singer in the truest sense and his vocal ability is both powerful and emotional (which is important when you are primarily singing love songs) and he also plays the guitar very well.

The mood of the evening was light-hearted as Sopranos co-star Steve Schirripa (aka the much put upon Bobby Bacala) opened the show with much bantering about the series and the relationship between their characters.

Steve Schirripa & DesireeIn addition to some terrific standards like Guantanamarra, Chianese also performed his original compositions A Typical New Yorker and True Love Still On My Mind all of which will be available on his soon-to-be-released album.

Schirripa, who claims he can barely talk, let alone sing, was coerced into "la la laing" along on stage during an audience participation number which seemed to be quite the crowd pleaser.

Following the approximately 70 minute performance, the actors spent almost 2 hours signed autographs for fans. Schirripa was all smiles and posed for photos with whomever asked. When I had the brief opportunity to introduce myself to Mr. Chianese he looked very tired and simply said, "I think I've signed about four million autographs tonight". Then he grinned and let us take his picture.

If you want to learn more about Dominic Chianese, check out his answers to our Sopranoland Seven Questions or visit his official web site. If you want to know more about Steve Schirripa, visit his official web site and check back because I'm still finishing his Sopranoland Seven Questions interview.
